Hello, my name is Susan Lark, and I'm a medical doctor with 30 plus years of

Every minute of every day, your body works to get rid of excess acid. In fact,
almost every cell of your body contains alkaline substances such as calcium,

The aging process doesn't help, either.
The older we get, the harder our bodies have to work to maintain the acid/alkaline
balance. For example, oxygen is essential to keeping your body alkaline. Yet
your lungs' ability to take in oxygen declines one percent per year on
average. It peaks for women at age 20, and by age 70, your oxygen intake is reduced
by half.
What's more, after mid life, your pancreas produces less of the bicarbonate
that keeps your body alkaline.
So what does your body do to make up for this? It starts taking calcium, magnesium,
and other alkaline minerals from your bones! This happens day after day, year
after year, until one day you have a bone density test and your doctor says "you
have early osteoporosis."
And osteoporosis is just one of the problems caused by acidity. When your joints
are acidic, you have joint pain. When your muscle tissues are acidic, you feel
tired and achy. When the tissues of your brain are acidic, you feel mentally
foggy. And when the tissues in your respiratory tract are acidic, they release
histamine, causing sneezing, sniffling, and other allergy symptoms.

The "Miracle Cure" in Your Refrigerator
The quick fix I'm talking about is baking soda! That's right, that
little yellow box you keep in your fridge contains sodium bicarbonate, a highly
alkaline substance. All you have to do is mix some baking soda in water and drink
it.
I know it sounds too simple. But scientific studies prove it! In one study, baking
soda reduced the uric acid crystals that cause joint pain and kidney stones.
And in several other studies, athletes taking baking soda were able to improve
their speed in races and increase the amount of time they could exercise before

Why Osteoporosis Drugs Actually Make Your Bones Weak and Brittle
(and what you should do instead for stronger, healthier bones)

For years, I've been warning about the dangers of osteoporosis drugs.
And now my warnings have come true.
Recent studies have linked these drugs to osteonecrosis of the jaw, an incurable
condition where the bone in the jaw actually dies!
Some 2,400 people have developed this devastating condition, and many are suing
the drug companies. In response, one of the drug companies issued a press release
saying that these cases "do not necessarily indicate causality."
Don't you believe it!
Here's why bisphosphonate drugs can harm your bones, and why I've
been warning about them for years:
Your bones keep renewing themselves throughout your life, with older, weaker
bone cells being replaced by younger, stronger ones. This happens thanks to
special cells called osteoclasts and osteoblasts. The osteoclasts break down
old bone and remove it, and then the osteoblasts build new bone.
Bisphosphonate drugs work by disabling the osteoclasts so that they stop breaking
down your old bone. But these drugs do nothing to build new bone. So, even
though your bones become denser, that density is made up of old, weak, brittle
bone tissue!
So why did these cases of bone death occur in the jaw and not other bones?
One theory is that the problems were somehow caused by bacteria in the mouth.
Well, I have a different theory.
It's a medical fact that the osteoclast/osteoblast cycle moves a lot
faster in the jaw than it does in the other bones of the body. So doesn't
it make sense that whatever bone changes caused by these drugs would occur
in the jaw first? Of course it does.
It's been a little over 10 years since the introduction of bisphosphonate
drugs. I wouldn't be surprised if over the next 10 years we start seeing
cases of bone death in the legs, arms, and hips as well!
What You Should Do
The real sad part about this is that osteoporosis drugs aren't even necessary
in the first place. That's because there's a tried-and-true method
that actually reverses osteoporosis.
It is called EMT, and it's absolutely amazing. In fact, I've seen
EMT work on women with bones as brittle as twigs!
EMT stands for electromagnetic therapy, and it involves sending a mild electrical
current to the weakened bones. You see, medical science has long recognized
that the human body is pulsing with tiny electrical currents. And normalizing
this flow of electricity promotes healing.
In fact, studies show that when EMT is applied, it creates the same type of
electrical impulses that are created in your bones when you're doing
high intensity, weight-bearing exercise.
Not only that, but EMT is painless and has a long history of safety. It's
been used in hospitals for over 40 years to heal broken bones.
Despite this track record of success for broken bones, it wasn't until
fairly recently that researchers put two and two together and figured out that
it would work for weakened bones too! Since then, at least 6 different studies
have proven that EMT increases bone mass and bone strength.
Doctors are starting to catch on, but as I write this, EMT is still hard to

So how can you tell if you have an undiagnosed thyroid problem? Start by performing
this simple test:
Take an old-fashioned glass thermometer, shake it down, and put it on your night
table before you go to bed.
Immediately upon waking, put the thermometer snugly in your armpit for a full
15 minutes. (It's important that you make as little movement as possible
while doing this. It's also important that you do it as soon as you wake
up, before you've gotten out of bed or done any moving around.)
After 15 minutes, read and record the temperature and date. Then repeat the process
for 3 straight days. The normal temperature should be between 97.8 and 98.2 degrees.
If your temperature is below 97.8 degrees, the chances are good that you have
an underactive thyroid gland.
Fortunately, thyroid problems can be corrected or even cured for good. And to

Improve Your Memory With Chewing Gum!
If your memory's not what it used to be, then you'll be interested
in hearing about a recent university study. The study found that you can
improve your memory by chewing gum!
Researchers took 75 adults and gave them
a 20-minute battery of memory tests. One-third of the participants chewed
gum during the tests. Another third
took the test without chewing. And the remaining third were simply asked
to mimic chewing movements with nothing in their mouths.
Result: the gum-chewers' scores
were 24 percent higher on immediate word recall, and 36% higher on delayed
word recall. Let me put these numbers
in perspective for you: If you'd taken the delayed memory test and
gotten a grade of "64" on it, chewing gum would have boosted
your score to a perfect 100! That's pretty darned impressive.
Why does
chewing gum boost people's memory scores? The researchers
aren't sure. But they have their theories.
One theory is that chewing gum boosts activity in the hippocampus, an area
in the brain important for memory. This is backed up by MRI studies that
showed the hippocampus lighting up when people chew.
Another theory poses
a far simpler explanation: It's been shown that
when people chew gum, their heart beats faster. Naturally, this would result
in greater blood flow and more oxygen to the brain.
Whatever the reason,
you may want to consider chewing gum the next time you need your memory to
be sharp. But please, please, please avoid chewing gum
that is loaded with sugar. And stay away from gum that is sweetened with
nasty chemicals like aspartame or sucralose.
Instead, choose a brand that
is sweetened with xylitol. Xylitol-sweetened gum is completely safe, it doesn't
raise your blood sugar, and studies show that it's actually good for
your teeth and gums. So grab some and chew away! |

It's Not Just What You Eat, It's What Your Body Absorbs
The fabulous Rosalind Russell, a.k.a. Auntie Mame, once quipped, "Life
is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death." Well, despite
all your best intentions, you could be one of those "poor suckers."
You may be eating a healthy, well balanced, organic meal complete with all the
right servings of fruits, vegetables and grains, without benefiting from any of
the nourishing ingredients.
That's because it's not just what you eat, it's how your body
digests it.
When our digestion is working well, we absorb nutrients and supplements with

Why Japanese Women Almost Never Have Hot Flashes or Menopausal Symptoms
(Surprise: It's Not Soy!)
For years, you've been hearing about how Japanese women rarely get
hot flashes or menopausal symptoms. And for years, you've been reading
it's been due to their consumption of soy products.
But let's
face it. Lots of American women have followed the advice to add soy to their
diets. But they're still getting hot flashes, mood
swings, and other symptoms.
Could it be there's another reason our Japanese sisters sail though
menopause without having the same problems we do?
It appears that the answer
is "yes." And it appears that the
secret may be a substance called gamma oryzanol.
Gamma oryzanol is a compound
found in rice bran oil. It has a long history of success in Japan, where
doctors prescribe it regularly.
Two notable studies prove gamma oryzanol's
effectiveness. In the first study, researchers took women who'd had
hysterectomies and gave them 100 mg of gamma oryzanol, three times a day,
for 38 days. Result: more than
67% of women saw their symptoms cut in half!
In the second study, 40 peri-menopausal
women received 300 mg of gamma oryzanol for 4 to 8 weeks. A whopping 90%
of those women saw improvement, with 40%
rating their improvement as "excellent."
No negative side effects
were reported in the studies, but there was one unforeseen positive effect:
the women who took gamma oryzanol reduced their
cholesterol and triclyceride levels, while increasing beneficial HDL!

What You Should Always Do
Before You Color Your Hair
Coloring your hair can make you look great. But it may also increase your
risk of cancer!
The danger first came to light when researchers noticed that hairdressers
had the highest rate of breast cancer of any profession. This finding led
to several studies on the link between hair dye and cancer.
One study found that women who use hair dye at least once a month are twice
as likely to develop bladder cancer as those who do not. And women who
have regularly used hair dye for at least 15 years have triple the risk!
Another study compared 459 people who had bladder cancer to 665 people who
did not. The study found that women who used hair dye had a higher rate of
bladder cancer. And it didn't matter whether the women used permanent,
semi-permanent, or rinse. All 3 types raised cancer risk.
Still another study found that a woman's risk of bladder cancer depends
on how well her body excretes arylamine, a chemical found in permanent hair
dyes.
Why would putting chemicals in your hair cause bladder cancer? Because these
chemicals penetrate the skin on your scalp and enter your bloodstream. The
blood is then FILZered by the kidneys, and works its way into the urine in
your bladder. Since the lining of the bladder is very sensitive, exposure
to the chemicals leads to cell damage that develops into cancer.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to protect yourself.
First of all, make sure you drink plenty of water before, during, and after
getting your hair colored. This will keep urine moving through your bladder,
reducing your exposure to carcinogens. (A 1999 study found that people who
drink ten or more glasses of water a day have almost half the risk of bladder
cancer of people who drink less than five glasses.)
Secondly, and most importantly, you should keep your exposure to chemical
dyes to a bare minimum. Two options include foiling and highlights, as less
dye touches your scalp. But an even better option is to use natural, plant-based
hair dyes.
